What do the mountain chalets of Alsace, country homes of Normandy, coastal apartments of Cote d’Azur and family chateaus throughout France all have in common? They are all someone’s home where they live, love, entertain and maybe work from … just the same as your home or mine. We fill our homes with the necessary, the precious and the sentimental to create our very own living space.
For me, my living space is filled with handmade and original items. I love creating and making and feel a real sense of “bonheur” (happiness) when my family is surrounded by my creations and creations of those I love (my grandmother, my kids etc). The satisfaction of completing something original and made by our own hands is good for our well being. If the idea of creating a handmade item is too much, then why not get creative with fresh flowers… grab a vase and create a floral masterpiece!
So what are you waiting for? Get creative today and find your inner self – this is the time of the year for it! Quilt, crochet, knit, scrapbook, sculpt, paint, arrange fresh flowers or do whatever else takes your fancy. Make your home somewhere you love to spend time with those that are important to you and a space where creativity is celebrated. For the most inspiring and beautiful country cottage ideas I follow Courtney of French Country Cottage whose instagram feed is simply stunning (as you can see from photo above).
Crocheting in front of a crackling fire when the snow is falling outside is one of my favourite activities, especially when the crochet blanket I’m working on keeps my legs warm. This is a special treat I look forward to when visiting our holiday home in Brittany during winter. Do you have a favourite spot in your home, or season, when you like to create handmade pieces? Here are some finished, and still in progress, projects of mine… Annette xx
