Le Mas des Poiriers is a 65 acre pear farm on an island in the Rhône River, Provence, and also now the stunning family home of Shauna Varvel. After renting the property years ago on a summer family trip, they fell in love with the expanse of flat green land with easy access to water and the 200 year old plane trees planted in three allées. So after deciding it would make the perfect home for their family of five children, they initiated the purchase of the farm and six months later they owned the farm in Provence and Shauna was registered as a French farmer.

Shauna Varvel's book 'Provence Style' is a sumptuous 254 page book showcasing the family's home after its renovation, and sharing the journey of the undertaking of bringing Le Mas des Poiriers into the spotlight as a loved family home.

The Rebuild, Restoration and Refurbishment of Le Mas des Poiriers
After the completion of the purchase of Le Mas des Poiriers, for the next three years with a team of architects, sub-contractors, exterior designers, interior designers, kitchen specialists, antique dealers, fabric designers, craftsmen and women, landscape architect, gardeners, painters and artisans the major renovation and transformation of Le Mas des Poiriers developed under the over arching guidance and care of Shauna herself.
The ambitious project included completely gutting and restoring the entire house, adding new rooms to the barn side of the house, lifting the modern tile floors, removing partition walls, creating the main staircase, re-plastering the exterior, renovating the separate guest house and completely rebuilding an old barn.

Making the trip from America to France every six weeks to meet with the architect and sub-contractors Shauna kept a close eye on the project's progress and was very involved in everything including the more intimate details of fixtures, fabrics and decor items. The house is testament to Shauna's ability to work with the large team involved in this massive project and her own incredible sense of style.
The book is filled with photos of the exterior, interior and gardens of Le Mas des Poriers, a site plan (plan du site) and stunning captures of other Provencal homes highlighting the distinctive style of this region of France.
